Alternative Screenshot Methods

Question:
How do I take a screenshot when Alt+Print Screen does not work?
Answer:
Some alternative methods of taking a screenshot are as follows:
Screenshot Method 1 

Windows XP:
  1. Click on Start
  2. Click on Run
  3. Type OSK and click OK
  4. This will bring up the On Screen Keyboard; make sure it is not covering the results
  5. Open the window you want to capture (such as your quiz results)
    • On the on screen keyboard, click CTRL and ALT then click PrtScn to screenshot selected window
    • Click PrtScn to take a screenshot of the entire window
  6. Click on Start
  7. Click on All Programs
  8. Click on Microsoft Office
  9. Click on Microsoft Office Word
  10. Right-Click in the blank area and select Paste
  11. Click on File
  12. Click on Save
  13. Click on the Desktop icon on the left hand side
  14. Under File Name type a unique name for the file (i.e. Quiz Results - [QuizName])
  15. Under File Type select JPEG
  16. Click Save

Windows Vista/7:
  1. Click on Start and locate the Start Search
  2. Type OSK and click on the On Screen Keyboard icon at the top of the list
  3. This will bring up the On Screen Keyboard; make sure it is not covering the results
  4. Open the window you want to capture (such as your quiz results)
    • On the on screen keyboard, click CTRL and ALT then click PrtScn to screenshot selected window
    • Click PrtScn to take a screenshot of the entire window
  5. Click on Start
  6. Click on All Programs
  7. Click on Microsoft Office
  8. Click on Microsoft Office Word
  9. Right-Click in the blank area and select Paste
  10. Click on the Office Button
  11. Click on Save
  12. Click on the Desktop icon on the left hand side
  13. Under File Name type a unique name for the file (i.e. Quiz Results - [QuizName])
  14. Under File Type select JPEG
  15. Click Save

Windows 8/8.1:
  1. Click on Start and locate the Search by moving the cursor to the far right
  2. Type OSK and click on the On Screen Keyboard icon at the top of the list
  3. This will bring up the On Screen Keyboard; make sure it is not covering the results
  4. Open the window you want to capture (such as your quiz results)
    • On the on screen keyboard, click CTRL and ALT then click PrtScn to screenshot selected window
    • Click PrtScn to take a screenshot of the entire window
  5. Click on Start
  6. Type in "Word" on the keyboard or use the search by moving the cursor to the far right
  7. Click on "Microsoft Word" or "Word 2016" (depends on version installed)
  8. Open a blank document
  9. Right-Click in the blank area and select Paste
  10. Click on File
  11. Click on Save as
  12. Click on the Desktop icon on the left hand side
  13. Under File Name type a unique name for the file (i.e. Quiz Results - [QuizName])
  14. Under File Type select JPEG
  15. Click Save

Windows 10:
  1. Click on Start and locate the Search at the bottom
  2. Type OSK and click on the On Screen Keyboard icon at the top of the list
  3. This will bring up the On Screen Keyboard; make sure it is not covering the results
  4. Open the window you want to capture (such as your quiz results)
    • On the on screen keyboard, click CTRL and ALT then click PrtScn to screenshot selected window
    • Click PrtScn to take a screenshot of the entire window
  5. Click on Start
  6. Type in "Word" on the keyboard or use the search by moving the cursor to the far right
  7. Click on "Microsoft Word" or "Word 2016" (depends on version installed)
  8. Open a blank document
  9. Right-Click in the blank area and select Paste
  10. Click on File
  11. Click on Save as
  12. Choose Computer
  13. Click on the Desktop option
  14. Under File Name type a unique name for the file (i.e. Quiz Results - [QuizName])
  15. Under File Type select JPEG
  16. Click Save

Screenshot Method 2 via Snipping Tool

Windows Vista/7:
  1. Open the window you want to capture (such as your quiz results)
  2. Click on Start
  3. Click on All Programs
  4. Click on Accessories
  5. Click on Snipping Tool
  6. To activate Left Click Hold in the upper right hand corner of what needs to be captured
  7. Drag the cursor to the lower right hand corner of what needs to be copied let go Ensure that the selection is what you need

Windows 8/8.1:
  1. Open the window you want to capture (such as your quiz results)
  2. Click on Start
  3. Type in "Snipping Tool" on the keyboard or use the search by moving the cursor to the far right
  4. Click on Snipping Tool
  5. To activate Left Click Hold in the upper right hand corner of what needs to be captured
  6. Drag the cursor to the lower right hand corner of what needs to be copied let go Ensure that the selection is what you need
  7. The captured image will display in the Snipping Tool window so it can be saved or pasted into Microsoft Word

Windows 10:
  1. Open the window you want to capture (such as your quiz results)
  2. Click on Start
  3. Type in "Snipping Tool" in the search window at the bottom of the screen
  4. Click on Snipping Tool
  5. To activate Left Click Hold in the upper right hand corner of what needs to be captured
  6. Drag the cursor to the lower right hand corner of what needs to be copied let go Ensure that the selection is what you need
  7. The captured image will display in the Snipping Tool window so it can be saved or pasted into Microsoft Word

Options for saving for all versions of Windows:
Save as Image/Picture
  1. Click File
  2. Click Save As
  3. Choose location to save to (save it to Desktop if unsure)
  4. Under Save as type select JPEG file
Paste in Microsoft Word
  1. Open Microsoft Word
  2. Press the CTRL+ V or keys on keyboard or to paste (you should see the capture)
  3. Save and submit the file per your instructors directions
